Mission: To promote Advanced Energy in our region for the purpose of:

• Economic development, by stimulating job creation through new research and manufacturing opportunities
• Reducing economic exposures associated with fossil fuel use, by accelerating supplies of alternative energy sources for local consumers
• Environmental improvement by reducing air emissions associated with fossil fuel consumption and thereby improve regional air quality
• National recognition, becoming a leader in Advanced Energy technology development and implementation

The February 9, 2012 meeting of the Task Force has been canceled. The next meeting of Great Lakes Energy Task Force will be Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Case Western Reserve University. Please RSVP your attendance to Maureen Joyce at mjoyce@cuyahogacounty.us, or 216-443-7868, no later than March 2, 2012. Additional details to follow.

A lunch will be available for $10.00 cash (no checks or credit cards). Please be mindful that when you RSVP, unless specified, we are ordering a lunch for you.

Please note that the Task Force will be alternating meeting location sites. For future meeting sites, please check this web site regularly, or contact Maureen Joyce for additional information.  The regular meetings will continue to be held the second Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted.

Task Force

The Great Lakes Energy Development Task Force (“Task Force”) was created to explore the legal, technical, environmental, economic, and financial aspects of developing and implementing advanced energy technologies in Cuyahoga County. The Task Force was launched to respond to volatile world markets for fossil fuel based energy, address Federal Clean Air Non-Attainment Status, and capture the growing economic development potential for green and renewable industries. 

The Cuyahoga County Department of Development operates as the fiscal agent for the Task Force and coordinates the economic development leads that are generated through the Task Force.

The goal of Task Force is to research and develop an approach for incorporating advanced energy as a critical component of the Region’s energy portfolio and economic development profile. Offshore wind, and more generally, is the primary focus of the Task Force.

Great Lakes Energy Development Task Force Recommends a Feasibility Study for an off-shore wind energy research/development center

Beyond wind energy, the Task Force recognizes the economic and environmental opportunities presented by other advanced energy technologies. These technologies include, but are not limited to: solar power, bio-fuels such as ethanol, electricity generated from surplus heat or steam, energy efficiency technologies such as LED lighting, and fuel cells. Opportunities for economic development and environmental improvement associated with these technologies are also being investigated by the Task Force.

Chaired by County Prosecutor William D. Mason, the Task Force is comprised of a network of individuals and organizations structured to involve citizens, governments, for-profit, and non-profit sectors of the community.

The Task Force meets on the second Thursday of each month to discuss findings of its subcommittees, review other developments from the preceding month, and plan upcoming activities to capture opportunities associated with advanced energy that will enhance the Region’s economy, health, welfare, security, and technological prominence. Based on its findings, the Task Force makes recommendations to the County Commissioners and the broader community for implementation.
