International expansions into Northeast Ohio are on the rise as companies discover the region’s assets. Northeast Ohio’s logistics, infrastructure, skilled workforce, corporate-friendly tax structure, and low cost of doing business are attracting international businesses’ attention as they seek to break into the U.S. market.
Northeast Ohio is known for its ethnic diversity and is home to more than 120 ethnic/cultural communities. There are 405 foreign-owned companies in Cuyahoga County, emanating from 32 countries. The Brookings Institution ranked Greater Cleveland 34th out of 100 U.S. metro areas in number of jobs supplied by foreign-owned companies in 2014. Brookings found that foreign-owned companies tend to pay better and invest more heavily on product development than domestic-owned companies.
