Fall 2010
Seven foreign delegates representing nations from Africa, Asia, and Europe, met with the Cuyahoga County Department of Development to discuss key advanced energy initiatives in our region, such as the offshore wind energy project in Lake Erie.
Summer 2010
Nearly one year after the BOCC approved a $20,000 Cuyahoga Innovation Zone Phase I - Business Planning Award to Midtown Cleveland, Inc. - to study the feasibility of creating a globally competitive bioscience district in the City of Cleveland, the area was designated an Ohio Hub for Innovation and Opportunty by Governor Ted Strickland.

Boxes are packed. Dumpsters abound. All the while, Development staff is scurrying up and down the halls. No, we're not spring cleaning. We're getting ready for our move. Yes, the Department of Development is moving from their current residence at the County Annex building to our New office space located at Reserve Square.
Winter 2010
On October 6, 2009 a Multi-County Regional Summit was convened at The Forum Conference Center by Paul Oyaski the director of Cuyahoga County’s Department of Development. The Summit brought together economic development directors and their staffs from Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina and Cuyahoga Counties. These five counties comprise NOACA.
Fall 2009
Earlier this year, President Barack Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) into law. As a result of this law, funds have been distributed throughout the country to assist local communities, residents, governments and other agencies with stabilizing and reinvesting in their communities. As the entitlement agency for the smaller suburban communities the Department of Development has received more than $12.4 million in ARRA funding. These dollars will be used to weatherize homes, to remediate brownfield’s, and to help fund large infrastructure projects in local communities.
Summer 2009
Cuyahoga County implemented the Community Assessment
Initiative in 2003 with a $400,000 U.S.EPA Assessment Grant and has received an additional $1,200,000 in three subsequent funding rounds. The Community Assessment Initiative is a key component to the County’s brownfield strategy by characterizing and assessing a variety of brownfield sites contaminated with hazardous substances and/or petroleum so they can be cleaned up and redeveloped.
