Pilot program for homeowner accessibility modifications
1/5/2015 2:00:00 PM
The Department of Development will soon issue a Request for Qualifications seeking nonprofit agencies to administer a pilot program for accessibility modifications to homes owned by elderly and disabled persons in 51 eligible suburban communities. Research and consultation with local advocacy organizations found that the supply of accessible housing needs to be increased. One way Development will meet this need is through its 2015 pilot program to assist homeowners with the cost of needed modifications. In its first phase, the program will concentrate on modifications such as grab bars, wheelchair ramps, and similar adjustments to existing housing. More extensive modifications will be considered once experience is gained in the pilot program.
